American (English) remake of the French series HPI (2021)
Tale
It follows Morgan, a single mother of three, and how, thanks to her exceptional mind, she is able to help solve a crime while reorganizing evidence during her shift as a police department cleaner. Despite her very high IQ, excellent memory and extensive knowledge of the arcane, Morgan makes a number of basic legal mistakes that anyone who has ever watched a law show on TV would know not to make. In episode one, for example, she obtains a document from a locked safe in a suspect-victim’s law office that would never be admissible in court – evidence obtained illegally.
Remake of HPI (2021)
It also could not be used to obtain other evidence – a violation of the legal doctrine of “fruit of the poisonous tree”. In Episode 2, she has to be reminded to wear gloves before handling evidence at a crime scene, and in #3, she removes all documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and making everything she removed inadmissible in a court of law as well. High Potential is a charming new show in the crime drama genre.
She is relatable and entertaining
The main character of the show is a strong, independent, highly intelligent, yet vulnerable woman raising three children. The way the show goes about solving crimes is interesting with some great comedic moments. Kaitlin Olson is fantastic as Morgan.
It’s a fun and quirky hour of entertainment
She delivers a performance that makes you instantly like her character and want to know more. Judy Reyes and Daniel Suniata are great in their supporting roles. Even the kids are well-rounded and lend some comedic moments to the show.
